LOS ANGELES ? Exercise relieved symptoms of arthritis in obese mice, even though they lost no weight from their efforts, a study finds.
Excessive weight has long been considered one of the culprits of osteoarthritis, since it puts additional strain on joints. While exercise has been shown in some studies to ease arthritis symptoms, others have found that for overweight and obese people, a fitness regimen can exacerbate the condition.
The study, published online Tuesday in the journal Arthritis & Rheumatism, found that although weight may heighten the risk of osteoarthritis, regular exercise could diminish joint problems by slowing its progression.
Researchers from Duke University worked with 20 8-week-old male mice, half of whom were fed a high-fat diet in which 60 percent of calories came from fat. The other half got their usual food, with 13.5 percent of calories from fat.
As expected, the mice on the high fat diet got pretty chubby; after 12 weeks they had a 55 percent increase in body mass and their body fat percentage rose more than three-fold. Researchers found evidence of osteoarthritis in the mice?s knees, such as markers for inflammation. They also found elevated glucose levels (an indication of prediabetes).
When the obese mice started running regularly on a wheel, changes started happening, despite the fact that they were still on the high-fat diet and losing no weight: the inflammation response was disrupted and glucose tolerance improved.
?I don?t want to say exercise is turning off that inflammatory signal, it just impairs it,? said lead author Timothy Griffin in a news release. ?This shows that if you are obese, it?s better to exercise. Sometimes pain can be a barrier to starting exercise, but if you overcome it, in the long term, it?s better.?

Phil Clements of Cathedral Consulting told me $4 Trillion (with a ?T?) dollars of revenues? from small businesses owned by?Baby Boomers either need to sell their businesses or retire in the next ten years. ? This article comes to us from Debi Peverill CA to help you consider what it takes to find a buyer for your business.
?As the Baby Boomer generation begins to decide they would like to spend less time working, many are looking to sell their businesses. There are not as many people interested in buying businesses as there are in selling businesses. Because of the reality of the demographics, businesses owned by Baby Boomers will be sold in a buyers? market.
The fact it is a buyer?s market does not mean you will be unable to sell your business. There are still buyers out there. Some of them may be working right in your business, as your trusted partners or employees. You need to consider all the possibilities to find the best buyer.
Partners Or Shareholders
If you are not the only shareholder in your business, it is possible one or more of the other shareholders might be interested in purchasing your shares. If this is the case, your shareholder agreement likely covers this situation.
Employees
The advantage of selling to the employees who work in your business is they understand the business. The disadvantage is they do not usually have the money required to buy you out. If you are considering selling to your employees you will most likely end up doing some of the financing as a vendor take-back, due to the lack of funding on the part of the employees. The length of time you want to wait for your money will determine the length of the vendor take-back.
Competitors
Competitors understand the business and may have the money to purchase your business. The process has to be undertaken carefully. You will want a non-disclosure agreement signed before you give any competitor your financial statements. Recognize they will still know your business even though the agreement says they cannot tell anyone.
Customers
Maybe one of your customers is interested in purchasing your business. Let?s imagine you are a drafting business and one of your biggest customers is a firm of architects. They may decide it makes sense for them to buy your business and set up their own drafting department within their business. Take a look at your customer list and see if you can spot any likely candidates.
Giant Corporations
Maybe your business would be a good fit for a large conglomerate which does not yet have a business in their stable which does what you do. These organizations can certainly afford to buy your business, but recognize they will drive a hard bargain. Foreign Nationals
Perhaps your business could be sold to a person who wishes to immigrate to Canada. Individuals in this position may be eligible for a government program which requires them to make some sort of investment in Canada to be permitted to immigrate.
Strangers
If you cannot think of anyone to approach about selling your business, it is possible to advertise your business for sale. It might be time to consider hiring a broker. A broker will assist you with the whole process of selling your business.
Take the time to evaluate all potential sources of buyers for your business. You want to get the best possible price. To do this you need to be sure you have exhausted all the realistic possibilities.?

Recently retired fighter Chris Lytle hinted at a future in politics while still in his fighting career. Now that he has given up fighting and is just a firefighter and the father of four children, Lytle has decided to fill up his scads of free time by running for the Indiana State Senate.
Lytle is well-known of one of MMA's good guys, always ready to share his time with a fan or a member of the media. Over the course of his 11-year career, he continued to serve as a firefighter. In the cage, he was the kind of fighter fans always wanted to watch because he was always willing to put on a good show, winning 10 fight night bonuses from the UFC.
Now, Lytle wants to put those qualities to work in the state government. He has already started campaigning, visiting future constituents all over the 28th district and using the tagline, "Fighting for Indiana's Future." Though it's been more than a month since his retirement bout, a submission of Dan Hardy, Lytle is sporting a black eye in many of his pictures. He probably had a fun time explaining that to the people at the senior citizen's center.

KINSHASA, Congo ? Authorities said Monday that most of the convicts who escaped a Congolese prison over the weekend were recaptured, as a human rights group condemned prison conditions and called for improvements.
Kasai Occidental governor Hubert Kabasubabu Katulondji said Monday that 114 prisoners fled the prison in Tshikapa Sunday as an ill prisoner was being taken to the hospital. He said police have captured 90 escaped convicts and that one inmate died.
However, Tshikapa resident Henri Tshibuyi said two people died. He said one prisoner was shot dead and another died after being wounded.
Tshibuyi said prisoners had complained previously over a lack of food and water at the prison and over the death of two prisoners amid those conditions.
"The prisoners were upset after the death of two of their own for lack of food," he said.
A Congolese rights group, the African Association of Defense of Human Rights, said prison conditions must be improved and that prisons need to be made safer to guard against escapes.
Despite its mineral wealth, the Central African nation suffers from decaying infrastructure and is still recovering from back-to-back civil wars that ended in 2003.
"Instead of prison being a place to re-educate prisoners, in Congo prison is a place where one can easily die," said the head of the group, Jean-Claude Baka.
He said prisoners often enter in good health but get sick or die because of poor nutrition and medical care. He also said that many prisons are filled to three or four times their capacity.
Nearly 970 prisoners escaped from a prison in the city of Lubumbashi earlier this month. Two people were killed. Hundreds of those convicts remain at large.

While many of the households without power since Hurricane Irene have regained their physical phenomenon according to the Department of Energy, thousands are still cleaning up their homes after astonishing flooding. Unfortunately, many may find themselves confused is to expenses to pay for these damages.
Damage from Hurricane Irene operation from $7 to $13 billion or maybe more, often from flooding and power outages. But difficulty surrounding insurance process coverage abounds.
Seventy two percent of people in a consult say they think their insurance would pay is to full cost to reconstruct from a innate catastrophe or fire. Yet scarcely all insurance companies hat the amount they pay for a complete loss unless extra coverage is purchased and many policies take debasement in to account when assessing damage, according to the final MetLife Auto Home Insurance Literacy investigate in Aug 2010.
Here are 6 extra insurance information to explain misconceptions connected to flooding and other weather-related damage:
1.Most homeowners? policies do not add inundate insurance but options exist.
Homeowners? policies usually do not casing loss due to flooding, but coverage may be purchased from the sovereign government. Homeowners can inquire their agents about the sum or meeting the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) at 1-800-427-4661 or www.floodsmart.gov .
|
Over the past 10 years, the median inundate affirm has amounted to scarcely $48,000, according to the NFIP. For office building and essence for moderate-to-low chance homes, NFIP coverage starts at $129 per year.
Flood insurance may be purchased for any authorised skill located in a residents that participates in FEMA?s National Flood Insurance Program at any time in any case of your inundate risk, and coverage is existing theme to exclusions and stipulations in the policy. However, in many cases there is a 30-day watchful time after requesting and profitable the reward for a typical inundate insurance process before it becomes effective.
Chubb Group of Insurance Companies began to offer inundate insurance in 2006, and its product offers presumably broader coverage than the supervision program. Chubb offers up to $15 million in coverage, according to Chubb orator David Hilgen, whilst NFIP offers a limit of $250,000 for residential office building coverage .
The Internal Revenue Service is moreover in the process of providing taxation relief, inclusive adjournment of filing and remuneration deadlines, to victims of Hurricane Irene and will refurbish information on the IRS website .
2. Some housing loan companies may need inundate insurance when you buy your home.
For example, if you have a federally insured housing loan and live in a high-risk inundate zone, the housing loan firm will need inundate insurance to secure your loan, according to Chubb. Also, if you live in a high-risk inundate region and take sovereign catastrophe benefit after a flood, you will be compulsory to buy and sustain inundate insurance until your loan is paid off. In this case, if you do not buy inundate insurance and other inundate indemnification your property, a solicit for sovereign catastrophe benefit could be denied.
3. The sort of ?natural disaster? could be relevant. Lightning and hail: Yes. Volcanoes: no.
The MetLife investigate says that damage from whirlwind or accost and lightning is enclosed in many homeowners? policies, whereas damage from earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are usually not covered. Also, substructure damage from earth transformation and H2O damage from a cesspool or sump-pump are usually not covered unless you feel safe extra coverage.
But Judy Spry, associate in the insurance claims services use at BDO Consulting, mentioned for many business policies, ?named breeze storm? coverage and consequent flooding is usually deliberate the same result in of damage. Also, it may or may not be applicable that Hurricane Irene was downgraded to a pleasant charge in many areas along the East Coast.
?Every insurance process is unique, so it is most appropriate to examine with your insurance representative or broker,? she said.

UNITED NATIONS ? The U.N. Security Council will meet Wednesday to start the process of formally considering the Palestinian request for membership in the world body, the council president said Monday.
Lebanese Ambassador Nawaf Salam, who holds this month's rotating presidency, made a brief appearance before reporters Monday and issued a statement in English and Arabic. He said the council had met Monday afternoon and decided to take up a decision on referring the issue for further consideration in two days. That will consist of forming a committee to study the Palestinian submission.
The United States has said it would use its Security Council veto to block Palestinian membership should the measure receive the necessary nine of 15 votes. That would keep the membership bid from moving forward to the 193-member General Assembly for the needed two-thirds vote. A vote in the Security Council was not expected for weeks, at the least.
U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to describe confidential diplomacy, said Monday they were telling fellow council members that there's no rush to act on the bid submitted Friday over U.S. and Israeli objections. The U.S. is also seeking cooperation from other members in persuading the Palestinians not to push for a quick vote.
The U.S. hopes that going slow may allow Israeli-Palestinian peace talks to resume without a confrontation at the world body.
Earlier Monday, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Makati at the U.N. to make the U.S. argument. Lebanon, the only Arab member of the 15-member Council, is expected to support the Palestinian bid.
Senior U.S. officials said Clinton had made separate, similar calls to the foreign ministers of Colombia and China, both of which hold council seats.
The Palestinian envoy to the U.N. Riyad Mansour said he was grateful to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for quickly forwarding the request to the Security Council. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday submitted the application that Palestine become the United Nations' 194th member.
"We hope it will lead to fast action in positively recognizing that Palestine be admitted," Mansour said.
But he admitted that several countries would be coming "under tremendous pressure" not to recognize Palestine as a state and said the Palestinians are sending high-level delegations in the coming days to Bosnia, Gabon and Nigeria ? all council members ? to elicit support for their bid.
Mansour said that the Palestinian leadership will be meeting Wednesday on a subsequent statement by the Quartet of Mideast peacemakers ? the U.S., European Union, Russia and U.N. ? calling for a resumption of peace talks without preconditions within a month and a target for a final agreement by the end of 2012.
Israel and the United States oppose the move to grant U.N. membership to the Palestinians and consider it a step back from long-stalled peace talks, and the U.S. has said it will veto a resolution recommending membership.
Nonetheless, diplomats said the council is moving ahead ? as it does with all applications it receives. The Palestinians have demanded that there be no politically motivated delays.
The council will hold a formal meeting Wednesday to transmit the bid to a committee on admission of new members which includes all 15 council nations, diplomats said, speaking on condition of anonymity because consultations have been private.
A German diplomat speaking on background because the talks were private, said the council had at least reached consensus on the next steps to take, but noted the political focus would now be on the Quartet's efforts.
The Palestinian president turned to the U.N. in frustration after nearly two decades of unsuccessful peace efforts that were derailed at various times by violence, indecision and intransigence. Abbas says he will return to the negotiating table only if Israel halts settlement construction and accepts the pre-1967 War borders as the basis for talks.
The Palestinians want the Security Council to recognize an independent Palestine in the West Bank, east Jerusalem and Gaza Strip ? areas captured by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war. Some 500,000 Jewish settlers now live in the West Bank and east Jerusalem. Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005.
The United States, Britain, France and other council members are likely to try to hold up consideration of the application while they press for a resumption of long-stalled Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, diplomats said.
If the Palestinians fail to win U.N. membership, they can turn directly to the General Assembly, where there are no vetoes and a number of options including seeking to raise their status at the U.N. from a permanent observer to a nonmember observer state. That would give them the possibility of joining U.N. agencies and becoming parties to treaties including the International Court of Justice or the International Criminal Court.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) ? The Palestinians' initiative to seek U.N. recognition as a state, which goes to the Security Council on Monday, faces an uphill struggle to secure the nine votes needed for approval.
Without those votes in the 15-member body, the United States will be spared the embarrassment of having to veto the application, which would be a further blow to its floundering efforts to secure Middle East peace.
As the formal discussions start, diplomats say the Palestinians have only six certain votes on the council -- China, Russia, Brazil, Lebanon, India and South Africa.
Those nations, except Lebanon, make up the BRICS bloc of emerging powers whose economic and diplomatic clout has grown as trade becomes more globalized and the United States and Europe fight prospects of another recession.
But diplomats say the BRICS countries seem to have made no attempt to use their considerable weight, often on show in financial and trade matters, to force the Palestinian issue. They have essentially taken the same approach as always.
"If a vote was held today, the Palestinians wouldn't have enough votes to carry the day and the Americans wouldn't even need to use their veto," a Western diplomat told Reuters.
The Palestinian observer to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, told reporters nine council members are among the 131 U.N. member states that have recognized the state of Palestine and he hoped that they would "vote positively."
But he acknowledged that council members will face "tremendous pressure" in the coming weeks to vote against the Palestinian U.N. bid.
Still, diplomats say Washington remains isolated on the council because of its staunch support for Israel, which the majority of U.N. member states believe has worked hard to sabotage peace talks with the Palestinians.
In February, Washington vetoed what was widely seen as an anodyne resolution condemning Israeli settlement activity, even though its language was largely consistent with statements of the Obama administration, which has urged the Israelis to resume a moratorium on new settlements.
When Israel ended the moratorium a year ago, the Palestinians withdrew from moribund peace talks.
ISOLATION
Highlighting its isolation on the Security Council, Washington cast the sole vote against the settlements resolution. The other 14 members -- including Washington's European allies such as Britain and France -- opposed the United States and Israel and voted for the resolution.
The Europeans agree with Washington that the Palestinian U.N. bid is unwise and are inclined to oppose it. But the Europeans and Americans are far apart on the Middle East issue and diplomats say Washington remains as isolated as ever.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas set the clock ticking on Friday when he delivered a U.N. membership application for a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The capital would be East Jerusalem, land Israel captured in the 1967 war that it launched out of fear Arabs were poised to attack.
The council will take up the Palestinian membership application on Monday in closed-door consultations, but no immediate action is expected, diplomats say.
Normally the council would take no more than 35 days to review and assess a membership application. In July, the application of South Sudan, the 193rd U.N. member and the most recent country to join the world body, was approved in a matter of days and given to the General Assembly, which confirmed it.
Western diplomats on the Security Council say that will not be the case with the Palestinian application. The United States and Israel vehemently oppose the move and say it can only undermine efforts to relaunch stalled peace talks.
The 35-day limit can easily be waived, Western diplomats say. Slowing down the process, they say, would be helpful as it would buy time for the United States, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations -- the "Quartet" -- to put pressure on both sides to get back to the negotiating table.
But Abbas told reporters during the trip back to Ramallah that he expected the council to make a decision in "weeks not months."
Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki has acknowledged his delegation lacks sufficient support at the moment to get a resolution on Palestinian statehood and U.N. membership through the council.
To pass, resolutions need nine votes in favor and no vetoes from the five permanent council members -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States.
"We're working toward it (securing nine votes) and I think we'll manage it," Malki said.
Malki has named Gabon, Nigeria and Bosnia as key rotating council members he hopes to win over to the Palestinians' side. During last week's U.N. General Assembly session, the three "swing states" did not divulge whether they would vote in favor of Palestinian U.N. membership.
Gabon President Ali Bongo told the assembly he supported the existence of a Palestinian state that "lives peacefully side by side" with Israel. Bosnian President Zeljko Komsic voiced similar views. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan did not mention the Palestinians in his speech.
Mansour said the Palestinians would be sending high-level delegations to Bosnia, Gabon and Nigeria in the coming weeks.
Portugal's prime minister, Pedro Passos Coelho, whose country is also on the council, indicated Lisbon would favor an option whereby the Palestinians would apply to the General Assembly for upgraded U.N. observer state status -- less than full membership but indirect recognition of statehood.

Real Spit: Killa Kyleon may still be making a name from himself in rap, but the Houston MC is no rookie.
The seasoned Southern spitter got his start running alongside Big Pokey, Chris Ward and DJ Screw's Screwed Up Click, before really making an impact with Slim Thug's group Boss Hogg Outlawz. It's his gruff vocal tone, butter flow and hard-nosed lyrics that make Killa Kyleon a fan favorite. On his latest mixtape, Candy Paint N Texas Plates 2, Killa puts it all on display.
With the tape's 21 soul-drenched tracks, Killa Ky hooks up notable producers like Lex Luger, Cookin' Soul and Cy Frye to lay his sound bed. On "Top Down," Killa spits over a dreamy loop that incorporates a small sample from the Notorious B.I.G.'s 1995 song "Who Shot Ya," so it's only right that Kyleon tries his hand over the classic Biggie beat on the next track.
His inspiration isn't all rap. On "Bodies Hit the Floor," Killa recruits Bun B and producer Lex Luger to add a hip-hop twist to Drowning Pool's 2001 metal track "Bodies." It doesn't stop there: On "Hustler's Prayer," Big K.R.I.T. samples Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" as Ky goes in lyrically against his rap competitors. ("Lyin' about they real on these records in front of cameramen/ Run a background check, them n---as fake as mannequins."
Mac Miller joins in on "Come on Baby," and "Letter to Pimp C" is a heartfelt dedication track to the fallen UGK pioneer. Whether from the Deep South, Northeast or West Coast, Killa Kyleon's Candy Paints & Texas Plates 2 has something for every hip-hop fan.
Joints to Check For
» "Bodies Hit the Floor." "We did a rendition of the track ['Bodies'] by Drowning Pool," Killa said. "We took that, put a little street flip on it, man, put a little Texas style with it, added a little flavor with the homeboy Lex Luger."
» "Who Shot Ya." "It's my remix of Notorious B.I.G.'s 'Who Shot Ya,' " Ky said. "I just wanted to pay a little bit of homage to the big homie. That's one of my favorite rappers, one of my favorite top two rappers in the game. I just wanted to take the track, do my little flip on it, man."

SANAA, Yemen (AP) ? Forces loyal to Yemen's newly returned president attacked pro-opposition troops with mortar shells and heavy gunfire Saturday and used rooftop snipers to pick off unarmed protesters fleeing in panic, killing more than 40 people and littering the streets of the capital with bodies.
One of the most powerful rivals to President Ali Abdullah Saleh ? a senior general who threw his support and his troops behind the anti-regime uprising ? warned that the president appears set on driving the country into civil war, calling on the international community to rein him in.
Saleh, who has clung to power despite nearly eight months of protests and an assassination attempt that left him severely burned, abruptly returned to Yemen on Friday after more than three months of treatment in Saudi Arabia for his wounds. Street battles that had reignited a week earlier in Sanaa rapidly escalated, signaling a possible full-fledged attempt to crush his rivals and tighten his grip on the country he has ruled for 33 years.
In a strongly worded statement, Maj. Gen. Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, who commands the 1st Armored Division, called Saleh a "sick, vengeful soul" and compared him to the Roman emperor Nero, burning down his own city.
"With his return, Yemen is experiencing sweeping chaos, and the harbingers of a crushing civil war which this ignorant is determined to ignite," al-Ahmar said in the statement.
He called on the neighboring Gulf countries, the United States, and the international community to "deter him, stop his irresponsible behavior that aims to ignite a civil war that would have repercussions on the whole region."
Yemen's turmoil is of deep concern to the United States and much of the West because the country is a haven for Islamic militants, including a branch of al-Qaida that Washington says is the most dangerous remnant of the terror network. Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula has launched several nearly successful attacks on the U.S., including the failed plot to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner in December 2009 with explosives sewn into the underwear of a would-be suicide bomber.
With the country spiraling deeper into disorder, al-Qaida linked militants have already seized control of entire towns in southern Yemen beyond their traditional strongholds.
In response to the recent violence, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the alliance of Saudi Arabia and five other energy-rich nations, called for a cease-fire and urged Saleh to immediately sign a power transfer deal proposed by the group.
"The security and humanitarian situation in Yemen can't take any more delays," a statement issued by the group, currently in New York, said.
Opposition spokesman Mohammed al-Sabri held Saleh directly responsible for the killings.
"It's as if he was unleashed from a cage and came out to retaliate," al-Sabri said. "This man deals with Yemen as if he's a gang leader, not a leader of a nation."
Saturday's deaths raise to at least 140 the number of people killed the past week.
Much of Saturday's violence centered on the neighborhoods around the main protest encampment known as Change Square, where thousands have held a sit-in since February to demand that Saleh give up power.
Republican Guard troops and Central Security forces battled soldiers loyal to al-Ahmar who were trying to protect the protesters. Government forces pounded the area with mortar shells and fired anti-aircraft guns and rocket-propelled grenades down streets. From above, snipers methodically fired at panicked protesters running for shelter. The shelling wrecked several houses, witnesses said.
At least 28 protesters and one of the soldiers guarding them were killed Saturday, said Mohammed al-Qabati, a medic who works at a field hospital in the square. Fifty-four people were wounded, he said.
The intensity of the fighting forced ambulance crews to leave many of the bodies in the streets, he said.
"More bodies and injured are pouring into the hospital," al-Qabati said, adding that many of the injured were transported by motorcycle.
In the northwest of the capital, Sanaa, mortar shells rained down on the headquarters of the Al-Ahmar's 1st Armored Division. Eleven of al-Ahmar's troops were killed and 112 were wounded, according to Abdel-Ghani al-Shimiri, a spokesman for the soldiers.
An official in al-Ahmar's office said the troops will remain only in on the defensive and won't go after Saleh's troops. The official said al-Ahmar conveyed the message to diplomats in Sanaa, who are apparently trying to contain the violence.
On a third front, Saleh's troops fought anti-government tribesmen in the capital's Hassaba district. Clashes there over the past two days killed 18 tribal fighters, according to a statement Saturday from tribal elders.
Hassaba is home to Yemen's most powerful tribal confederation, the Hashid, led by Sheik Sadeq al-Ahmar, another Saleh foe. He is not related to Maj. Gen. al-Ahmar.
Eight government troops were also killed and dozens wounded, said Interior Minister Gen. Mouthar al-Masri. He did not specify when or where the casualties occurred.
Violence also shook the southern city of Taiz, home to one of the strongest waves of anti-Saleh protests, and at least one protester was killed there, a medical official said.
Yemen's uprising began in February as the unrest spreading throughout the Arab world set off largely peaceful protests in this deeply unstable corner of the Arabian Peninsula. Saleh's government responded with a heavy crackdown that has killed hundreds.
In another sign that Saleh is trying to cement his authority after returning, he is pressuring his vice president to leave the country, and some of the government shelling even targeted an area near the vice president's house, government officials said. Speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, they said Vice President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi was very disappointed with the renewed violence.
During Saleh's absence, Hadi was officially in charge of Yemen's day-to-day affairs and led negotiations with government opponents aiming for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
But Saleh used his powerful son Ahmed, who controls the elite Republican Guard forces, to remain in ultimate control behind the scenes.
A U.S.-backed deal mediated by Yemen's Arab neighbors would have required Saleh to resign and transfer his powers to the vice president in return for immunity from any prosecution. Saleh endorsed the deal several times only to balk at signing at the last minute.
Abdu al-Janadi, a government spokesman, told reporters Saturday that the deal could be signed soon after the various parties agree on a mechanism of implementation.
Still, the opposition is deeply distrustful of Saleh, and some factions now say too much blood has been spilled to let Saleh escape justice.

LOS ANGELES?? Potential jurors in the trial of the doctor charged in Michael Jackson's death have been asked about their impressions of the pop superstar.
A defense attorney for Dr. Conrad Murray asked a group of 74 potential jurors whether they thought Jackson was child-like and could not make decisions for himself. No one indicated they thought of Jackson in that way.
Bailiffs marched 84 potential jurors into Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor's courtroom Friday for in-person questioning. Ten were dismissed after stating they could no longer serve on the case.
Defense attorney Ed Chernoff also told the group that the trial would focus on part of Jackson's life.
Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and could face four years in prison and loss of his medical license if convicted.

PHOENIX - Ian Kennedy pitched six innings to earn his NL-best 21st win and the Arizona Diamondbacks routed the San Francisco Giants 15-2 on Saturday night, eliminating the defending World Series champions from the postseason picture.
Gerardo Parra had two hits and four RBIs for the Diamondbacks, who scored six times in the first and tied their single-highest scoring game of the season. Ryan Roberts drove in three runs.
Arizona also matched a franchise record with 13 walks one night after it beat San Francisco 3-1 to clinch the NL West title. The Diamondbacks also had 13 walks in a 13-inning game against the Houston Astros on June 5, 2002.
San Francisco was eliminated from the wild-card race with the loss. The Giants fell behind Arizona when they lost to Pittsburgh on Aug. 10 and never regained first place in the division.
Kennedy (21-4) allowed two runs and five hits, struck out four and walked two. The right-hander is 6-0 with a 1.66 ERA in his last seven starts.
The Diamondbacks remained one game back of Milwaukee for the second-best record in the National League, with home-field advantage for the first round of the playoffs at stake.
Arizona scored six times in the first inning against Eric Surkamp (2-1), who walked four and recorded just two outs. Roberts and Parra each had a two-run single, and Kennedy capped the outburst with a two-run double.
The Giants experienced some bad luck on Parra's hit, with second baseman Mike Fontenot running into second base umpire Bruce Dreckman. The collision allowed the routine grounder to go into center field, scoring Paul Goldschmidt and Roberts.
The Diamondbacks added five more runs in the sixth, and the rout was on. Roberts had another run-scoring single, lumbering catcher Henry Blanco tripled home a run and pinch-hitter Sean Burroughs added an RBI single for an 11-2 lead.
Pablo Sandoval had two RBIs for San Francisco, which allowed a season high for runs.
The Diamondbacks improved to 92-66, tying for the third-most victories in franchise history. They won 100 in 1999 and 96 in 2002.
NOTES: With the Diamondbacks batting in the bottom of the seventh, Chase Field experienced a power failure. Play resumed after a delay of 27 minutes. ... Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson announced starter Jarrod Parker, the team's top draft pick in 2007, will make his major league debut Tuesday against the Dodgers. ... Blanco's triple was the 11th of his career and his first since Sept. 10, 2006, with the Chicago Cubs. ... When the Giants return home Monday, they will set an single-season franchise attendance record. In 2011, they sold 3,261,104 tickets, and will sell out every game. ... Tim Lincecum (13-13, 2.59 ERA) will start for the Giants on Sunday, and Josh Collmenter (9-10, 3.42) will pitch for Arizona. ... The crowd of 49,076 was the third sellout of the season for the Diamondbacks.

Question by CC: Anyone know anything about real estate law?
I was sent a certified letter from the woman who bought my house (we closed 5 months ago). She states that she is now having plumbing problems and wants me to contact her to ?resolve? the issue. They had an inspection done and had a final walk through. I know nothing about any plumbing issues with our house. Should I call her back? My sister said I should respond or it looks like I?m hiding something. My father-in-law says to ignore it. Any opinions?
Best answer:
Answer by RU Nucking Futs
Unless you had ?will pay for plumbing repairs? in your contract you are under no obligation to do anything about it. she bought the house, it belongs to her now. Plumbing and other issues are her responsibility.
I say write her a letter telling her that.
This happened to my in-laws. They sold their house and several months later the roof leaked. The new owners tried to sue my in-laws trying to get them to pay for the new roof but they lost. My in-laws didn?t have to pay for the repairs.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Facebook is trying to evolve from an Internet hangout where people swing by to share tidbits, links and photos to a homestead decorated with the memories, dreams and diversions of its 800 million users.
In what may be the boldest step yet in the company's seven-year history, Facebook is redesigning its users' profile pages to create what CEO Mark Zuckerberg says is a "new way to express who you are."
It is betting that despite early grumblings, its vast audience will become even more attached to a website that keeps pushing the envelope. To that effect, it is introducing new ways for people to connect with friends, brands and games while also sharing details about their lives from the mundane to the intimate.
"If you look at Facebook's history, obviously they are not afraid of making change," said Sean Corcoran, an analyst with Forrester Research. "They have done a lot of big changes in the past and people have gotten upset. But most of the time Facebook has been right."
Zuckerberg introduced the Facebook "timeline" along with new entertainment and media company partnerships on Thursday in San Francisco, at the annual "f8" conference attended by about 2,000 entrepreneurs, developers and journalists. The event was also being broadcast to, at one point, more than 100,000 online viewers.
The changes seek to transform how and how much people share things online, just as Facebook has been doing since its scrappy start as a college-only network. The overhaul also presents a new challenge for Google Inc., which has been scrambling to catch up with the launch of its own a social network, Google Plus, three months ago.
The timeline, which will eventually replace users' current profile pages, is reminiscent of an online scrapbook filled with the most important photos and text that they have shared on Facebook over the years. It's where people express their real selves and merge their online and offline lives even more than they are doing now.
The timeline can go back to include years before Facebook even existed, so users can add photos and events from, say 1995 when they got married or 1970 when they were born. Users can also add also music, maps and other content next to their memories.
"This radical redesign shows Facebook isn't done becoming what it wants to become," said eMarketer analyst Debra Aho Williamson. "In some respects, Google Plus almost looks dated now."
Williamson expects there to be a big generational divide in how the broader sharing tools are perceived, with younger users embracing them more quickly. She also thinks Facebook should become even more attractive advertisers because it should be able to pick up even more data on what appeals to each user.
"They want you to share your authentic self online," she said.
Zuckerberg took the stage Thursday afternoon after a humorous skit, in which Saturday Night Live actor Andy Samberg impersonated him ? as he sometimes does on SNL ? and poked fun at Facebook. He introduced a "slow poke" button that takes 24 hours to reach its recipient and a new Facebook friend category for "I'm not really friends with these people."
The real Mark Zuckerberg looked considerably more playful and at ease than he has at past events, suggesting he is growing into his role as the public face of a company that is expected to go public in the stock market at some point next year.
But he quickly got down to business as he introduced the timeline as "the story of your life ? all your stories, all your apps and a new way to express who you are."
The timeline feature will be rolling out to users in the coming months.
Expanding on its ubiquitous "like" buttons, Zuckerberg said Facebook will now let users connect to things even if they don't want to "like" them.
"We are making it so you can connect to anything you want. Now you don't have to like a book, you can just read a book," he said. "You don't have to like a movie; you can just watch a movie."
To this end, Facebook unveiled a slew of new partnerships with a slew of older and younger companies, ranging from The Washington Post to Netflix Inc. and from the struggling Yahoo Inc. to the hot music service Spotify.
Through a "ticker" feature partly unveiled earlier this week, Facebook users will be able to see the songs their friends have listened to, the shows they watched or the games they played in a live feed of activity on the right side of their pages.
Clicking through takes observers to the services. The diversions include Hulu videos, Zynga games, Spotify and another music subscription service, Rhapsody.
Axel Dauchez, the chief executive of music subscription service Deezer, which has 1.4 million paying customers in Europe, said the integration with Facebook was key to its plan to roll out in more than 130 countries over the next several weeks.
Instead of actively sharing each song they listen to, users who consent to sharing through Spotify, for instance, will now have all their activity on that app beamed to their Facebook friends. They can also to listen to songs together with their friends.
Marc Rotenberg, executive director of Washington DC-based Electronic Privacy Information Center, had some concerns.
"I guess our life is now packaged and streamed in real time," he said, adding that there's a sense that every time Facebook makes changes, more of its users' data gets pushed out into the public. Users than have to go back to their profile settings and reclaim this information.
To this end, Zuckerberg said Facebook users will have "complete control" on how they turn on an application.
"We are working out the rough edges now," he said.

Laminate flooring installations are producing a buzz in between home remodeling rookies. This flooring phenomenon is building a do it yourself following that is unheard of inside the industry. Overnight a tattered, carpeted property can also be transformed into an elegant mansion with gleaming, stylish floors brandishing every actual wood grain imaginable. If a homeowner qualifies for your property improvement loan or home equity loan, this can be 1 sure way of spending it sensibly though adding impressive significance to the property. What exactly is really a laminate flooring installation and why the property improvement hype?
A laminate flooring installation is often a flooring project done with tongue and groove planks that click together to type a stable, floating floor. No adhesive or nails are applied to fix the planks to the sub-floor. The planks can have the appearance and texture of true wood, ceramic tiles or stone tiles and the latest technology is these kinds of how the appear made is very authentic.
You won?t necessarily need to rip out existing floors should you plan a laminate flooring installation. Laminate planks will be quite at house if installed more than vinyl, tiles, or actual wood. Just ensure that the sub-floor is perfectly smooth and even and follow the manufacturer?s detailed advice in every respect. Carpeting and true wood on concrete floors will must be taken out prior to installing laminate flooring.
The planks applied during a laminate flooring installation typically consist of four fused layers. The bottom layer is mostly reinforced with melamine. This substance provides stability and protects the upper layers from moisture. One of the most crucial layer may be the inner core made of the medium density fiberboard, treated and impregnated with edge sealing substances. The third layer is the decorative part in the plank. This really is practically nothing more than a photograph that gives the flooring plank the authentic wood or tile looks. Covering the decorative layer stands out as the wear layer, commonly consisting of cellulose paper, combined with melamine plastic resins and an aluminum oxide coating. Essentially the most wear layers resist staining, moisture, scratching, fading along with other signs of wear, protecting the laminate flooring installation for years to come.
In the case of Alloc Flooring, another thick Kraft paper layer has been added between the design layer as well as the core. The Alloc Laminate Flooring core consists of a specific Aqua Resist fiber board which has been engineered to minimize the risk of fluid absorption. Alloc floors are during the company of other classy manufacturers such as Pergo Flooring, Quick Step Flooring, Wilsonart Flooring, and Trafficmaster Allure Flooring.
The budget sections of laminate flooring installation ranges are often built having a direct pressure method. The four layers are assembled, heated and pressed to type the fused flooring plank. The pressure exerted is around 300 pounds per square inch at 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
More costly laminate flooring installations consist of high pressure planks. The top and bottom layers from the planks are treated separately and Phenol impregnated Kraft paper is added. This can be all fused towards the core layer. Extreme pressure of close to 1300 weight per square inch is used at 300 degrees Fahrenheit. This ensures a additional stable, durable end product or service with a smaller amount chipping and also a higher degree of moisture resistance.
As a laminated flooring installation isn?t affixed on the sub-floor, you desire a very good top quality padded underlayment to dampen sound, add towards stability from the floor, give warmth and add a far more comfortable believe underfoot. Some manufacturers pre-attach this underlayment on the planks. Even though this is a convenient option, some experts view attached padding as slightly a smaller amount strong than a separate underlayment. The underlayment normally consists of cork, felt or foam.
In the case of an Alloc Laminate Flooring installation, the underlayment is pre-affixed for the planks. This Alloc Silent Technique padding claims to dampen sound to a higher degree than other comparable padding products. The Alloc Flooring technique can even be ordered to include under-floor heating that is incorporated to the underlayment.
In addition towards underlayment, a plastic moisture or vapor barrier is placed among the planks as well as the underlayment to give additional protection against moisture. Any contact with fluids may possibly trigger the core to swell, leading to buckling or blistering on the floor. This level is really a polyethylene material. It just isn?t used in a laminate flooring installation wherever the sub-floor is true wood.
What creates a laminate flooring installation so popular, will be the fact that it?s an easy, glueless operation which could be attempted by any do it yourself novice. This can be a house remodeling option that gives extremely gratifying benefits inside several hours and is also utilized quickly in most cases. The tongue and groove designs in the laminate flooring installation planks merely snap or click together, producing tight-fitting, virtually invisible joints.
If done properly using a high grade product, these installations will hold their immaculate appearance for quite a few years. Most ranges are warranted for between 15 and 30 years, giving an indication with the robustness of a laminate flooring installation. It is employed in virtual any interior space, and even does well in bathrooms and kitchens, as extended as the laminate flooring installation instructions are followed carefully.
