Kenneth R. Summers, of Naples, FL formerly of Greenville, SC died peacefully at Avow Hospice on January 1, 2012 at the age of 78. Kenneth was born November 13, 1933 to the late George and Lillie Summers in Lexington, KY. He attended Henry Clay High School where he starred in football and baseball.
Serving during the Korean Conflict, he was a member of the United States Marine Corp. Kenneth was a graduate from the University of Kentucky studying Sales and Marketing. As the South Eastern Sales Manager for Star Kist Foods he later was promoted to the home office in California for National Food Service and all military sales.
He became a partner in Consolidated Brokerage in Greenville, SC retiring as the President & CEO. While heading up this firm, he enjoyed the experience of being named Broker of the Year several times among his various accounts.
As an avid golfer, he was a member of the Green Valley Country Club for many years prior to moving to Florida. While at Green Valley he and his wife Betsy were two time couples champions, and Ken was also a two time senior Champion. Prior to his passing, he was a member of Quail West County Club. He was a Baptist and attended and served at North Naples Baptist Church.
Kenneth is survived by his son, Kenneth "Scott" Summers (Heather) and grandsons Carter and Gavin. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Ann "Betsy" Summers in 2008 and his brother Leon Summers.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Thursday, January 5 at North Naples Baptist Church, 1811 Oakes Blvd, Naples, FL with a gathering starting at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Naples Baptist Church Building Fund or the Center for Developmental Services, 29 N. Academy St, Greenville, SC 29601.
